UAE. The Ministry of Health (MoH) is mulling over a number of steps to bolster the independence of the alternative medicine profession, whereby practitioners will be allowed to check up, treat patients and prescribe medicines without reference to a traditional medicine specialist.
Earlier the alternative medicine committee at the MoH in the UAE met under chairmanship of Dr Abdul Ghafar Abdul Ghafoor, Assistant Under Secretary of MoH for curative medicine affairs to discuss a number of options and conditions for employing those interested in practising the alternative medicine profession in the country.
Abdul Ghafoor said that 'the committee discussed a topic on distinguishing between those who obtained specialised certificates in one branch of alternative medicine and those who obtained specialised certificates in the alternative medicine after studying traditional medicine at one of the accredited universities.'
He added that a practitioner with MB (Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery) in traditional medicine will of course enjoy greater medical knowledge in regard to patient check ups and diagnostic measures.

Following on from the UK decision to double its contribution to the ADF, Ms Vadera used the occasion to ask the donor community to similarly increase their commitments to development in Africa and to the AfDB in particular. Economic growth in Africa is presently averaging more than at any time since the 1970's, however, as the speech outlined, there remain many challenges to sustain this level of growth and to utilize it effectively to significantly reduce poverty. The Minister therefore highlighted the urgency of increased development assistance in order to maximize the gains from this ongoing spurt in economic growth.
Ms Vadera also highlighted the fact that it is now half way to 2015, when the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are expected to have been achieved. The MDGs were accepted as development targets by the entire UN General Assembly in 2000. However, to date progress towards"
